How Bridal Bouquet Bags Became One of the Year’s Biggest Wedding Trends
For centuries, brides have walked down the aisle with flowers or fragrant bundles—once meant to protect, purify, or simply mask odors. But in 2025, the classic bouquet is getting an unexpected makeover: brides are wearing it instead of carrying it.
Bridal bouquet bags are exactly what they sound like—floral arrangements styled into or attached to a handbag, often worn on the wrist or forearm. They’re customizable, DIY-friendly, and transforming the symbolism of the bridal bouquet itself.
“It feels whimsical but still polished—like fairytale fashion with a modern twist,” says Marina Ellis, founder of the wedding style site Lace Lane Collective. According to Ellis, the bouquet bag blends personal expression with practicality. “Brides today want every detail to reflect who they are, from sculptural accessories to unconventional florals. It’s part of a bigger return to handcrafted luxury.”
One widely shared example this year came from Luna Moss Atelier, a New Zealand floral studio where designer Adele Carrow built a bouquet bag around a pearl-handled clutch. “Our bride wanted something sculptural and futuristic without feeling cold,” Carrow explains. “That’s where the idea started.”
Bouquet bags also serve brides who need alternatives to traditional handheld items. For some, it’s a matter of comfort. “It can be a game changer for clients who struggle with grip or mobility,” Carrow says. “The stability allows them to enjoy the day without worrying about dropping anything.”
A New Spin on an Old Ritual
The bouquet toss originated from superstitious traditions that encouraged grabbing at the bride for good luck—eventually prompting brides to throw their bouquets just to escape the crowd. Today, that ritual has fallen out of favor.
“Most of my clients find it dated or awkward,” says Leah Moreno, owner of the boutique floral studio Wild & Woven in Chicago. “In the last three years, only one couple even asked about it—and they used a separate bouquet specifically for tossing.”
Moreno crafts bouquet bags by hand, often spending several hours on each design depending on the purse structure. Their appeal, she says, is also logistical: “There’s always someone juggling the bride’s things—her bouquet, her veil, her drink. With a bouquet bag, she can actually enjoy holding onto everything comfortably.”
Durable blooms are key. “Mini orchids, anthuriums, and calla lilies tend to last the longest out of water,” says Harper Lin, founder of Botanica Theory in Vancouver. Lin often coils and weaves stems around jewelry chains or ribbon to extend their lifespan. “A bridal bouquet bag has to survive hours of hugging, dancing, and photos. Structure matters.”
Bouquet Bags for the Whole Wedding Party
The trend isn’t limited to brides. “Couples are embracing more inclusive, guest-centered touches,” says Delia Rafferty, floral designer and owner of Fern & Fold Studio in Atlanta. “We’re seeing bouquet bags gifted to mothers, longtime couples, and entire friend groups.”
This summer, Rafferty helped design floral purses for a full bridal party trip. The bags—sourced from a boutique owned by the bride’s sister—were embellished with fresh blooms just hours before the celebration.
Even earlier adopters incorporated unconventional versions. For her hillside wedding in 2023, bride Mara Lynn Porter chose minimalist glass handbags filled with pastel blooms for her bridesmaids. “I couldn’t commit to classic bouquets,” Porter recalls. “The glass bags felt fun, different, and totally us.”
For brides who don’t want to DIY, finding an experienced florist is essential. “Not every designer knows how to build a stable floral structure on a bag,” says Kayla Serrano, founder of the Australian wedding service BridalCraft Studio. Serrano, currently planning her own wedding, is leaning toward a bouquet bag herself. She’s skipping the bouquet toss entirely. “I’d rather give mine to my grandmother,” she says. “It feels more meaningful.”
